  Not strictly true. The epic was first written down between the 8th and 11th centuries by a Christian monk. Before that it had been an oral tradition passed down for many generations before the advent of Christianity. Its peculiar double-meter rhythm in each line was an aid to memorize the story. It may even predate the time Jesus was supposed to have lived. Seamus Heaney's modern translation is considered to be one of the best.

  MIL letter to my wife

  background: my wife and i are inactive, we stopped attending in 2005. raised as jws, were pioneers, i was elder etc... .

  our kids are in college, also inactive but are baptised.

  my wife went back to college, getting her degree this month at age 48!

  During a recent dust-up with my dub mom, she wrote me a truly vitriolic letter in which she elaborated at length on all my character "defects," the most prominent of course was my turning away from The Truth.

  After reading the letter, I put it into an envelope and mailed it back to her with no comment whatsoever. We didn't talk for almost a year over that.

  I finally made the overture to reconcile and she agreed. She then told me she showed the letter to one of her dub friends at the hall and asked her if she thought it was "hurtful." This friend read it and told her quietly,"That's pretty mean, Sister ---."

  Even another braindead dub realized how vicious my mother could be. Yet I was the one who had to make the peace.

  I often wish I hadn't.

  my son grew up with one of the young brothers in the kingdom and after graduation both him and my son left the kh.

  the young man who left the hall fell into the wrong crowd and i mean a really dangerous crowd and as a result of him getting involved in illegal activity he was murdered.

  i really feel for this young man, because he was a decent kid.

  What used to worry you the most about the great trib and Armageddon?

  i worried most about losing my dear family, but i also had silly worries like, what would happen to my pets?

  say i didn't have a chance to let the cats out, they would starve inside my house.

  and what if people were so starving because of the big gt famine and stole my chickens!

  I don't remember ever worrying about Armageddon when I was a braindead, reluctant dub teenager. I don't think I ever really believed it would happen.

  Now that I've been out of the cult for more than 30 years, I'm very worried about humanity's future -- not in the dubs' sense of it, but because of all the very real threats to our existence -- nuclear, viral, environmental, etc.

  There may very well be an "Armageddon" but, guess what, dubbies? You'll be wiped out along with the rest of us.
